In a statement provided to NJ Advance Media, Shi called it a “completely baseless complaint” and added Depasquale was a “known agitator who regularly disrupts the Board of Education meetings.” Shi said he asked the manager of the Facebook page to remove the post “to avoid any confusion and/or misperception that his endorsement was anything other than his own personal endorsement.” In his response, Shi states he “had no involvement preparing the campaign literature, and he did not give express permission” for his title to be used in the endorsement. 2, Shi filed a motion to dismiss the complaint, alleged it was frivolous, and asked the School Ethics Commission to impose a fine of $500 on Depasquale “to offset the costs, borne by the taxpayers, in defending” him. The complaint against Shi, filed by Tony Depasquale on June 14, takes issue with a campaign poster published on the official Facebook page of Edison mayoral candidate Mahesh Bhagia on April 1, which stated Shi “was supporting” Bhagia.
